An Amazing Before & After!

My friend sold me this project desk...she wasn't up to painting it!

It needed some help for sure!

One of the things I liked most about it was it's size....It could be used for a vanity, desk, sofa table, or a cute entry way piece....You can fit a good sized chair in the space also.

I had to sand down this piece first because it had lots of layers of bad paint jobs. Then, I had fun painting in chalk paint using old white and duck egg...I added some glass knobs also. Don't glass knobs make anything look better?

I also used a medium wax called Rugger Brown by Fiddes and Sons...it is not as dark as AS Dark Wax...I liked how it turned out! I'm excited to use this wax on other projects as well.

Sorry about the angle, but you can see the detail on the piece this way....

There she is...ready for the barn....and maybe you!

I have so many more projects, I'm not sure where to start... but for now we are getting my daughter ready for second grade... school supplies, shoes, clothes. My, they grow up fast!

Now, off to the pool for a dip!

Antique Type Set Letters! Aren't they fun! I recently picked up a Pottery Barn decorating book and they used them to spell out fun words...they had them stacked on small shelves. My friend Margo makes great necklaces out of them...check her out!

We had some for the spring sale, but have since bought more...

Letters, numbers, symbols...

Capital letters and lowercase....

Lots of choices....

What would you spell? Stock up for the fall....I think they would make cute Christmas ornaments or hanging off stockings....endless possibilities...

A Fun DIY Project Completed!

Do you ever have a project in your mind and you just never seem to get around to it? Well, that was how this project started. I love ribbon and wrapping presents. There is nothing more fun than having the perfect gift for someone and then wrapping it in an extra special way. To me, it completes the gift...anyway, my ribbon was never in one place or organized, so here was my idea...

If you live in the south, you know what this item is, what it is used for and you probably have one hanging in your house. It's supposed to be used for a gun rack, but I had a different idea. I bought this one for $5 at a garage sale....

Painted it white and hung it correctly on the wall....

Bought some dowel rods at Lowes and put all my ribbon on it! The entire project costs me under $10, it looks cute and is functional!

It is the start to my gift wrapping space...I hung up my sweet vintage B-day banner, I have control of the ribbon, now for a fun tape/scissor holder and I'm ready. Watch out world, a crazy wrapper is on the loose!

Often times I end up in a conversation that goes like this... So, you like to decorate...I have this problem spot in my house....What would you do? Can you help me? Of course, I say YES!!!
So here is my friend's problem...a very cool mantle with great stuff, but missing the mark for sure. You can spot the problems right? Too much wood, not enough color, no height...

Here it is from another view ... Also, throw in that she really loved the cross-stitched 23rd Psalm and wanted that on the mantle, so here we go....

What do you think now? First of all, the Psalm picture got top billing, then we added some height, color, light, wood and wicker.... She can easily add in pumpkins and fall decor too...

The best part, we used 95% of what she already had, items that were meaningful and precious to them, so very little $ was spent!

Simple, clean and well-placed...

We decided it needed the iron piece also, but waited on the hubby to hang it in the brick...and to make sure he likes it... It's important that the man in your life likes it also...I wanted all involved to be pleased! I think she was....

Where's your "stuck" spot? We all have them... I have plenty, but that's for another post...

Okay, I promised, no paint today! Isn't this oak filing cabinet neat? It looks like maybe it was used in a library....remember the days when you had to look in the card catalog to find what you were looking for? That was always a lesson in patience for me!

Nice drawers, fun pulls... what could she be used for now?

Louis Blue...I'm in love with this paint! The colors are just great....it goes on smooth, but quick and it really has the power of transformation! This is the bottom...

This is the topper... Sorry, no muscles at home to help me put them together and I just had to show and tell... I couldn't wait!

She distressed beautifully.... and the touch of white just brighten her up like red lip stick...

Another Chalk Paint Revival!

I found another pair of end tables recently....they have some fun, french curve legs and nice drawer space...but they were IN NEED of a revival for sure!

What do you think of them now? Big transformation right?

I told you I love anything in
pairs. These 2 are headed out to the barn. I think I'm getting the hang of old white chalk paint, time to try some blues!

Before & After's X 2!

I have 2 make-overs to show you today! This cute chair...it has good bones, but it was frumpy looking...it just needed some new paint and different fabric...

It's a little hard to tell from this photo, but the seat cushion was extremely mis-shaped. Some one had not re-covered her very well... No problem!

Check her out now! A fresh coat of cream paint and updated fabric in black and cream...

She's make a great extra office or bedroom chair don't you think?

Now, for the second project... I loved these petite nightstands when I bought them, sweet little legs and the wooden doors have a striped detail on them. I thought they were the perfect thing to try my new chalk paint on....

What do you think? I love them....they have been updated with old white paint and a little distressing. I think sweet is the word for them now!

I really liked my second experience with Chalk Paint....Now, what to start next?

I told you, it's wonderful, primitive cabinet ...about 3 coats of old paint...grey, turquoise and that most wonderful green!

It has a shelf with the top longer on the right side. It makes me wonder who built it and what purpose it served? I'm sure it could tell some good stories and secrets too!

It would be hard to replicate that paint color!

It even has lots of storage too! I think it would make a great potting table, kitchen island or storage piece. What would you use it for?

A quick Before & After!

I got this cute chair the other day...it has a sweet matching desk, hutch and side table, but the fabric was not cutting it! So, we just covered the denim with a soft stripe!

It looks much better now!

The colors are much better match now! Here's to quick changes!

We had to have a picture of Flo and Glo!

Now about the paint! Flo has been using Annie Sloan's Chalk Paint for awhile and painting some fabulous pieces, and so I really was wanting to see it in action. If you read blogs, you have heard about it and all the pros and cons...I have to say, I'm impressed and ready to order it!

Here's mine done! What do you think? I love her...and the pumpkin who is waving at you in the mirror!

Delicious Pulled Pork (only 3 ingredients!!)

This is the easiest, yummiest, most WOW recipe I've tried in a long time! It is perfect recipe for this time of year and did I mention easy?? All you need is a 4 things: A crock pot, 2 pounds pork tenderloin, root beer and your favorite bottle of barbecue sauce! First of all, just get your pork in the crock pot and pour over the root beer. The recipe calls for 12 oz or so, but I added a little more.

We really like Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce, but you can use whichever one you like! Let the pork slow cook, covered of course, in this all day...5-7 hours!

When it's done, it's done....It will just pull away from your fork. Put it in a pan and shredded it with your fork!

Perfect, right? Now add your BBQ sauce!

And buns...

Open wide and insert into your happy mouth!

Delicious!!!

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

1 ( 2 pound) pork tenderloin

1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottled root beer

1 (18 ounce) bottle of your favorite BBQ sauce

This recipe makes a bunch and is great for leftovers! Serve it with all your favorite BBQ sides!

Now dig in Ya'll!

Favorite Friday Find!

Lamps! A pair! Okay, confession time! I love anything in pairs or triples and I'm always bringing them home. I found these today and thought they were great. The shades had to go, but the detail is stunning!

They are still "farm fresh" (Have not yet been cleaned!), but I'll remedy that soon!

Then, they'll be off to the barn...to be stored by other about 6 pairs of white lamps! Maybe I'll find some new shades first!

Whoopie Pies! A Sweet Treat!

Recently my husband celebrated his "29th" birthday again and he requested his favorite childhood treat instead of cake! He grew up on these sweet treats called Whoopie Pies! These are a East Coast treat found at every local gas station, but you don't find them at all in the south!

They are fun to make and they bake up a large batch, so there are plenty to share! I'll explain first with pictures and add the recipe at the end of the post! Above are the ingredients for the cookie part, as you can tell they are made from all the "good stuff"!

Mix all the dry ingredients together first.

Then add the wet ingredients. The batter will be thick and light brown in color...

Looks good right?

Place them on a cookie sheet. I get 9 to a pan...they will expand, so give them some room to grow! ( I use a cookie scoop for this, but you can make them as large/small as you want!)

After they are baked, move them to a cooling rack or your counter. They will be like a cakey - cookie, soft on the top with a few cracks. They bake in about 10 minutes, but make sure you don't underbake them...that doesn't work well with this recipe...

Now, it's time to whip up the filling. When you see the recipe below, you'll notice that egg whites are in the frosting. ( just a note about egg whites: they last in frosting about one week, so eat these whoopies up!) Also, you could use store bought frosting or cool whip for the frosting, but they wouldn't be as good! The frosting is what makes them so YUMMY!

This recipe makes a big batch and you could half the recipe if you didn't want so many, but trust me, you'll have folks lining up to try them!

Now, you frost the cookies on the bottom side and then place another on top, bottom side in the frosting. Make sure the cookies are cool and fill them with a generous amount of frosting. This recipe makes about 2 dozen.

And a plate full! I wrap these individually with saran wrap and keep them in the frig. They are great with a large glass of ice cold milk! I have scene lots of variations to these Whoopie Pies, but this recipe is the classic, tried and true. I hope you get a chance to try it some day soon!

The happy birthday boy!

Whoopie Pies

4 C. flour
2 C. sugar
10 T. cocoa
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 C. shortening
4 egg yolks
2 C. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Filling:

4 egg whites
4 C. powdered sugar
1 C. white shortening
2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
Mix thoroughly until fluffy.

Sift together the dry ingredients. Then add the shortening, egg yolks, milk and vanilla. Mix until smooth and well-blended. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes at 375 degrees until set, but not crisp. When cool, put together (bottom to bottom) sandwhich-style with generous filling between. Makes about 2 dozen whoopie pies.

Favorite Friday Find

So, I'm starting a new thing...I'm going to post my favorite find of the week on Fridays! I know, it's Saturday, I just started and already I'm behind! Oh well! This wonderful 50's Birthday Banner caught my eye this week and I loved it! It is so 50"s...the colors are great....

The details are wonderful and it is in great shape! It was probably a felt kit that you bought and put together...it has sequins, candle buttons and some of the words are printed on the felt.

Have you ever seen anything so cute? Doesn't it just make you want to break out into, "Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you...?"

Sweet faces...

I hope this day has you singing!!!

I think for now this is a "keeper", but I do change my mind frequently these days!

A Sunday Afternoon of FUN!

You know you can't put on a barn sale without ALOT of help and helpers! And we appreciate all their support, help, advice, opinions, cheers, sweat, encouragement, prayers and the list goes on, so we try to plan something fun for all of us to do after the sale! This past sunday was that day! We had such a fun afternoon....we made notecard hankies and learned how to make strawberry freezer jam!

You need some vintage hankies, ribbon, buttons and notecards or recipe cards...

And a very cute helper!

You fold the pressed and starched napkin/hankie around the notecards, tie with a ribbon and attach with thread your favorite button! I only got a picture of one of them...Wouldn't you love to get one? They make such a perfect little gift! So easy and fun! Thanks Starla for showing us the "how-to's" on these....

Then my sweet mama showed us how to make no - cook Strawberry freezer jam! This has been a family favorite for literally years! ( she just uses the recipe in the sure gel box!)

Of course, we got to have some chattin' time too!

See, they are intently listening...my mom is a teacher also, so she knows just how to keep our attention!

There is the finished product they got to take home!

We love our helpers and are SO thankful for them!

Well, We did it ! We adopted a ...

dog for my little girl's birthday! We picked her out at the pound and I'm praying that we made a good choice...she is 5 months old yellow lab mix and seems very sweet. I'll keep you posted on that!

She looks calm right? Can you tell my little one talked us into this? She has been patiently waiting for this birthday for a few years because it was the year we felt she was old enough to take care of a dog....

I have to say, we all liked her...she's coming home next week!

I'll tell you her name then! Any guesses?

It started like this....Did you know that picking a paint color can be like torchure? Especially when you probably live with that color forever....
Then this....paint can add up fast!

Shop Talk with Ki ( you know, the one and only!)

Recently, I had a fun night hanging out at Winnie and Tutula's with the one and only

Ki Nausser, of Junk Bonanaza and Flea Market Style mazagine! Ki really put JUNK on

the map in a cool way and brought out the beauty of vintage objects in a new recycled way! I

enjoyed talking "shop" with her because there is not much she hasn't tried and she has been

successful at everything. My favorite thing about her is that she is so approachable and genuine

and willing to talk about different ideas....and she started with a garage sale ( now, you got to

love humble beginnings, I can relate to that, how about you?)

She is a real joy and just as fun as she looks!

Our sweet friend who bought this great coffee table unloaded it in her garage...when her husband got home, he said - I don't know what that is, but I LIKE it! Yeah, all are happy at her house! Another good customer and friend found this wonderful old cabinet and got it promptly displayed in her home! I think that lamp may have come from a previous sale also! It's the perfect thing and looks great! One more sweet customer had this to say: Dear Jodi, Just wanted to let you know how much I love your Barn Sale! It is so much fun and I look forward to it. Hard to find shops like "the Barn" these days. Not everyone has an eye for " the junk". The BARN SALE is just days away! We are getting excited...the work is almost done and the party is coming! Remember the Preview Party starts at 5pm, Wednesday night (Did you know we let people shop in the tent at 4:30??) Another thing to get excited about is all the donated $$$ stay right here in local East Texas!!! Children's Miracle Network, Literacy Council of Tyler, Habitat for Humanity and Royal Family Kids Camp will be the recipients for our spring sale donations! Well Mark and recently celebrated our wedding anniversary with a fun little weekend trip to Grandbury, Tx! What a great place! Their downtown square was great! They have loads of cute shops and delicious eateries! They were celebrating General Grandbury's birthday, so we even had cake for breakfast....(not that I would recommend that for everyday!) I, of course, had to visit all the antique stores and I loved some of the displays in this store and took a few shots to share! The boots lined the whole staircase!

So, one of my spring projects is to get all my pictures organized! A big task since I've just stuck them all in a box since about 2003...well, the good thing about working on them is it made me look back and realize how fast the days go...especially with my little girl! I also came across some old barn sale pictures and thought I would share them with you! None of this stuff is left, thank goodness, but I'm hoping these pictures might "wet your whistle for spring" and get myself motivated in the barn! Enjoy!

I'm just sharing some very fun items I've beening finding lately...most are in the ruff, not yet cleaned up! Tin "A"!
Fun garden plant moving cart! I think it needs some new wood!

I haven't found a set of 3 striped suitcases in awhile...they'll shine after a good cleaning!

Another cool industrial clothing rack! It is solid!!

This is great vintage shoe display rack...they look great with vintage locker basket in them or in kitchens for storage of dishes or linens too!

Drab to Fab!!!

Isn't great to have completed projects??? Here are 2 sweet ones that I have been working on!

Cute little outdoor/indoor set...but so drab and dull...

Not anymore...they are ready to go in a fresh ocean breeze blue! Someone please pass the lemonade!

I loved this table with all it's charm and personality... but need we say it was rough!

But with a fresh coat of black paint it was ready to go again! Notice the hidden drawer!

Just like that cute black dress, it's ready to party at your house!

Yesterday was a gorgeous "springy" Texas day, and since our next sale is just around the corner, we got started moving items at the barn! First we clear out a space...down to the walls...

Clear off the remaining pictures, screws and nails, curtains etc....

And then start filling in up again...

We have some real manly finds this time and loads of antlers! Check back to see how we display them! ( I don't know yet myself!) Any ideas? Please share!

Even though it has been so cold, we've still been out hunting fun stuff! I'm so glad that spring is on the way....I love all the seasons, but the warm ones are my favorite for sure!

Warm Blueberry Pound Cake - Double YUM!

When it is cold outside, besides staying inside, I always want to bake...something fresh pulled out of the oven...what a great way to say I love you to your family! Here's one of my new favorite recipes...It's so easy and yummy! I hope you'll enjoy it too!

Blueberry Pound Cake

1 box yellow cake mix

3 eggs

1/3 c. oil

1- 8 (oz) package cream cheese

1/2 c. mayonnaise

2 c. blueberries *

Mix the first 5 ingredients and fold in the blueberries. Pour into a sprayed bundt cake pan and bake 1 hour at 325 degrees.

Icing:

1 c. powdered sugar

2 tbsp. melted butter

2 tbsp. canned milk

1 tsp. vanilla

Mix and pour on the hot cake. ENJOY!

* I often use frozen blueberries. If you don't want them to run or get mushy, put 2 tbsp of flour with them and that will coat the berries.

That recipe is curtsey of my sweet friend Pat Lindsey, a true blueberry lover!

I think this would be great to substitute chocolate chips in also!

Lockers for sale!

Football lockers with mesh all the way around. Both doors close well, the doors are dk red/maroon color with white outside and one shelf inside! They measure 5 ft tall, 30" across and 12" deep and we only have one set. Very Cool!
These are light grey/blue and have 2 long doors, doors open well and they have mesh on 4 sides but not back. These are 6ft tall, 24" across, and 15" deep. These do have a little green paint as you can see from pictures. They would be great to paint your favorite "team" color! One set available.

These are like the ones above, but have 4 doors for lots of storage and gear. All the dimensions are same as above, one set available.

For our Spring Sale, YOU get to submit your favorite charity or non-profit and we'll choose 4 names and evenly divide the money donated that night and all through the sale to that charity in your honor! This is a great way to get some free advertising and financial help for where your passion lies!

Okay, now to my favorite part! All her red....I do love red, it is such a fun color and instantly adds punch to any room! Enjoy!
This is Rebecca's island in her kitchen...It's a vintage store display, but perfect as an island also! It's a fabulous way to display all your seasonal treasures without having to dust them and you can serve off the top for parties also! She says this gets used ALL the time!

I love picnic baskets, they are wonderful for storage and hiding all those magazines or things you want to keep but not show....She has the best collection I have ever seen!

I recently got to visit the home of my friend and long time barn shopper, Rebecca Ballard. I knew her home would be a real treat to see, so I took my camera along! Settle back and take a look at all her fabulous uses of vintage treasures, hopefully, you'll get some ideas of your own.

Did you know that Rebecca is in the business of making all things beautiful? She has been cutting and sewing for lots of years and her handiwork is well worth the wait! Love these monogrammed, slip covered chairs above...

Wreath with all vintage ornaments and decor...this gets lots of use at all the weddings she helps with...

She not only decks the mantle, but also the doorways of her home...

Love the mantle...she made all those stockings out of white sweaters! How's that for going "green"?
I also really like how she uses her everyday collections (swans) in her seasonal decor, that lets her personality shine all year through!

We have our favorite "old" friends, the ones who have known us forever, know all our secrets and love us anyway!

Our sweet friends who are always there for us - you know who those are!

Those friends who love our children like they were their own!

Those who encourage us in our pursuit and relationship with God....

The cheery ones who always make us smile!

A Christmas Brunch ( with shopping!)

Hi Friends ~

Hope your December is off to a great start! I wanted to tell you about a fun thing that our church is putting on this Saturday! It's called Christmas Comedy Celebration! It starts at 9:30 at Grace Community Church on old Jacksonville with shopping with 10-15 different vendors (AND WE WILL BE ONE OF THEM!) and then there is a brunch and comedy show for your entertainment! If you just want to come shop ( and see us! : ) that is free, if you want to come for the food and show that cost $10 at the door! There is more info about this event at www.gcc.org

We'll have the Jesus tree with trimmings, some assorted Christmas vintage and whatever else I can pull together between now and then!

PS. Little girls under 12 are free! So bring them with you!

Once again we had our Jesus Tree decked with new tags and fun suggestions for ornaments that represent the names of Jesus. This tree was a huge success last year, so we added 30 more tags to our list. We are now selling a set of 60 tags or a set of 30 new tags ( if you got last year's)! People told us all the neat things they did with them, some hung them on the tree in their sunday school rooms, class rooms, used them as an advent with their children, divided up the tags and had each family member come up with an ornament...the possiblities are endless.

Handmade seller supports women in Africa...read below!

A gift of fabric from Africa women inspired this seller to create these one of a kind quilts. These "rag quilts" or throws (the size for snuggling on the couch) are made with tie-dye from Sierra Leone, West Africa, as the top layer, and then two layers of warm, soft flannel. She makes pillows also from this tie-dye fabric. This was a way she could use her sewing talent and give back to these precious women as well!

The proceeds from the African items will go to support the Aberdeen Women's Clinic in Sierra Leone, West Africa. What a great idea!!!!

She also makes Christmas "rag quilts" or throws. They are approximately 40x60 with denim and cotton fabric on the top layer with beautiful old-world Santas, and then 2 layers of flannel. The one with the panel in the middle says, "Keep Christmas in your heart all the year through," and each Santa represents a month of the year. She has pillows in the old-world Santa fabric also available.

Handmade, pretty, and pratical - now that's my kind of gift!!!

Introducing Stacey Foster.... You're going to love her cheery orginals....

Stacey's been doing custom painting for over 10 years now. Everything from murals to children's canvases and furniture. About 2 months ago, she thought she would do something kind of exciting and wanted
to challenge herself to do 100 paintings in 100 days. She still does custom work, but these canvas panels are just some of those 100 paintings. Stacey loves to play around with words and these turned out to be colorful, fun and wonderfully "gifty". They will encourage, inspire or bring smile. She will embellish them all with ribbon, wire and beads and the sizes range from 5x7" to 12x12".

Here we are...shopping away! You know we HAD to stop at this place! They had really great signs! We could hardly pose for the picture...we were digging in...

My mom shopping at a local antique fair...believe it or not, we really needed those scarves!

These are something you don't see in Texas too often...We left them there!

Here's what I bought...DISHES! Yup and we carried them back with us on the plane! I love transferware, especially red and purple...

Our New England trip...FABULOUS!

We are still trying to get back on track after our highly anticipated trip to most of the New England states! The leaves were incredible, the lobster superb, the historical places stirred up our passion and love for America and we created some wonderful family memories...Here is a taste of what we saw and did...

Toured Ben and Jerry's in Vermont - of course! Delicious! Chunky Monkey all the way!

Dunkin Donuts are the "DQ's" of the south...they are EVERYWHERE, so we had to support the local businesses!

Carmel Corn recipe! Double YUM!!!

Honey's Carmel Corn

13 Cups of pre-popped popcorn (put in a large bowl!)

In Microwave:

2 sticks of butter
1 cup of sugar
1/2 cup karo syrup

Microwave 11 minutes or until mixture is bubbly and medium brown color.

Then add 1 tsp. vanilla

Mix with greased spoon (spray spoon with pam) in popcorn and pour out mixture to cool on foil paper. Let it cool before packaging or stuffing it in your mouth!

You can also add nuts, candy or anything else to the carmel corn.

Enjoy!!!!!

Okay friends, we have a few lockers left and since I always get questions about them, here are some pictures. We are happy to sell these between sales, so just send me an email if you are interested. These are 2 sets , one is more distressed than the other. Each set is $50.

I have one set of tall, thin triple grey lockers left. These are great for storage and all of these lockers have a flat top for storage, stacking or display. The gray set is $95.

I have 2 sets of these khaki brown color triple lockers, these are perfect for painting and have hooks for storage inside. These are $ 115 a set.

This is a picture of the second set of brown lockers for your comparison. These are $115 each also. Tax is not included in these prices. Found in Restoration Hardware, For Sale at the Barn!

Well I recieved a phone call from my friend the other day who said, "Have you gotten the new Restoration Hardware Catalog yet? If so, turn to page 41! That rack is in your barn!" And sure enough, we do have a very similar version for sale! Restoration Harware calls it a 19th C. Couturier's Rack used to display men and women's clothing! Their version is a reproduction of a rack salvaged out of a 19th Century New York Department store and available in late October for ordering. Are you ready for the price???

Only $995. Whoa! Sticker Shock!

Here is my version....an original find from Texas, ours has wheels and the top slants down instead of up! It is very tall (I haven't measured), black metal and very cool!!!!!

Barn Beginnings (Our first sale!)

Well, I thought I would share some pictures from our very first, cold barn sale! To say we've come ALONG way in 5 years maybe a huge understatement! There I am at the checkout just a proud as a peacock....

I have to laugh at some of the items in the pictures, so much was out of my own house....I just need stuff to sell....

and the barn seemed so large back then!

Our sweet friend Donna Hayes put items in on consignment as well as a few others!

We used whatever we could hang to make the walls seem less "barnish" and more like a home!

I borrowed that huge lattice from my 80 year old neighbor for a backdrop...she wanted it back so we had to move it on a trailer. I was so relieved to get it back to her in one piece!

I still love red items...they just look perfect in a barn, don't you think?

This was my dad's section...if you know him, you say looks just like him!

Here we are.....Freezing together in the barn! My folks have always encouraged me to dream big, just give it a shot...they have been behind me for 36 years and I couldn't have done it without them! They truly are one of the biggest blessings in my life! Thanks dad and mom for putting up with me and all my crazy ideas...I love you both!

So what are you afraid to try???? All you can do is fail, and you'll probably succeed! You'll never know unless you dust off your heels and give it ago! Here's to you and your "crazy" ideas!

My Arkansas FINDS!!!

Got ya!!! Of course, I had to throw this picture in for fun! I left these beauties behind! Aren't you glad??

I did find some pretty milk glass, ironstone and newer pottery pieces all in white. It looks great for any occasion!

Assorted metal, cute black bench and don't you love my funky squirrel?

Little green stool - great color!

this is an industrial shade cutter...You'll have to come to the sale to see what other industrial pieces I have....

I was told this was a nail sorter?, it has all the different lenghts on the sides...I thought it would be a great organizer on a desk!

Do you know what these are? I didn't. They are the seat backs off of theater seats, in the box is where they put your name or reservation number to hold your seat. Aren' t they cool??? They are metal and I have an idea on how to merchandise them. Come to the next sale and see if it works!

Grey lockers, would be great painted....I love the height on them, they are really tall and the single doors are harder to find! ( I am selling lots of lockers and they are the only thing I will sell before the next sale, so email me if you are interested!)

My first large purchase...I love this French style over stuffed chair! Hope you do too!

Well, those are some of my finds, lots more but I couldn't show you everything!

The Sum of it's PARTS are worth more than the whole!

Well, it was the last day and the trailer was scrammed full, I mean the type of full that you had to be really careful when you opened the trailer for fear of what was going to fall out. But then I spotted this very cool pump organ with the awesome topper and I really wanted it!

The price I was quoted was great and Margo and I had quite a discussion about how to get it home. After several options, I figured the only way to get in the trailer was to take it apart. I could tell that the seller really wanted to sell it and I really love architectural pieces, so I wanted it....the seller (Danny) kept asking me about it. Finally, I said the only way I can buy this organ is if you take it apart for me. He AGREED!!!! YEAH!!!! I planned on selling the parts from the beginning, because I have learned that often times the PARTS are awesome and WORTH more than the whole piece. SO, the de-construction project began....

Here is Danny (left) and Charles (right), taking apart the organ by unscrewing every screw. They were very careful and did not break any of the parts. Remeber now, it is 100+ degrees and they worked on this organ for an hour.... They were really troopers! They joked about how taking the organ apart was not on their adjenda for the day, but life can surprise you!

They were very kind and smiling inspite of the intense heat!

Here are some of the parts, they have the most amazing detail on them.

It was a big project! Here you can see the awesome side pieces...I really like those! You'll see them for sale at the barn!

One HOT Trip (Serious JUNKERS only!)

It was one HOT trip, one LONG sale and 3 days full of FUN! I joked with my friend Margo (pictured above) that she was the only one I knew who could endure the heat and still enjoy herself! Check out her blog for more on our trip!
We were thrilled to purchase snow cones from this local vendor...mine matched the color of my face...I'm pretty sure it was triple digits for all 3 days of our trip! You know this Texas girl was prepared, but still it was really toasty!

And you only thought things were big in Texas....we couldn't miss this sign!

We laughed at this sign, there was "material" all over the sides of the road! Yeah for us!

The first sale we stopped at...I was excited to get there and start the hunt!

Loved this hanging wicker swing and bought it after we tracked down the owner!

I think this is the end of day 2...the trailer is getting full. we did learn that boxes worked better than tubs....note to self for next time!

My first ever JUNKIN' ONLY Trip!!!

Margo and I are headed out on quite an adventure...to the Hwy 64 sale in Arkansas...it runs about 100+ miles and should be great! We have the

WATER

a fanny pack ( i had to borrow that)
the GPS
the map (in case the GPS heads us to somewhere else!)
hat and sunscreen
CAMERA (to show you all our good finds and strange sights!)
A good pair of tennies

Decorating with Windows! (A fun project!)

Last week we had a women's event at our church and the theme was Completely His, which was the title of one of the speakers books. I decorated the snack table and tried to incorporate the them into the design. My favorite part was using these old windows. I used the Cricut cutters to cut out the vinal letters and just stuck them on the windows...I was inspired by my friend Eva www.centaurarabianfarms.com who uses vintage windows bought at our sale to decorate for her wedding/party business...what a fun idea! I used 4 windows the same size and my handy hubby connected them for me....

This is what they looked like on the table...the fun part was all four sides are the same so there was no back or front and the food was served all the way around...Did you see that I used some old books in there also..you know i love those old books and use them every chance I get!

It was a girl's event so we HAD to have chocolate! I have lots of great helpers and several folks comtributed to the party!

The apples were free for the taking and had pink ribbon and the theme words on them also...

I also donated a small giveaway...I found this cute server in my barn stash..

and filled it with fun stuff....chocolate, candle and a plant!
I'm always inspired to use old items in a new way! How have you been doing that lately?

Colorado Finds!

Well, colorado is not known for good antiques, but we did stop at a few places on the trip! And I found a few interesting things.... Love the vintage M platter...

Love this woren yellow tole tray, it's a fun shape you don't see very often!

And this cute wooden barn, Rebekah tried it out with her horses!

Colorado Country!

Well, it was time for the family vacation, so we hit the road to Colorful Colorado. I love the mountains and it was time to explore and experience them together as a family! Here we are at the top of Pike's Peak, one of Colorado's many 14,000 + peaks!

Katherine Lee Bates wrote America the Beautiful after an inspiring ride up the peak way back when! Thank-you, Katherine!

Yes, there really was a very steep drop off right behind us, but we had to get the picture!

One shot out of the train car....

We had fun on the cog railway, I would suggest everyone go once...those majestic peaks are incredible!!!

We did a little hiking at Seven Falls....224 steps up to be exact! Needless to say, this Texas girl needed that water!

We also visited Focus on the Family....Rebekah ( I should say we) all like the Chronicles of Narnia series and they have a this fun wardrobe and Narnia room...

Stopped to pan for gold at the mining museum! Let's just say we better keep our day jobs!

This is where I worked one summer...I was a soda "jerk" at the San Juan Soda Co. The same wonderful folks still own it and I really loved that job! Everyone was always happy eating ice cream and of course, most of them were also on vacation! If you ever get the chance, go visit Lake City, Colorado...it is just a summer Colorado town, but a wonderful sweet and unchanged for decades...A great Christian Challenge Center is there also called Camp Redcloud, well worth the visit! It was a sweet week and we made some lasting memories!

Bye-bye to "my" moutains, I hope to see you again soon!
